"[There is a] more or less ignored fact that the historical object under discussion, the earth, has its metaphysical peculiarities, which like to hide behind an everyday appearance. An old woman remembers a boy who liked to climb trees and fell from one. From her perspective, we look through the skylight and see a man climbing a ladder to prune grapevines. This seemingly ritual act contrasts with the oppressive atmosphere that the images evoke, and shots of cloudy skies and aeroplanes enhance the film's feeling of acrophobia.
