Ranskassa eletään vuotta 1967. Paulette (Juliette Binoche) on pyörittänyt yhdessä puolisonsa kanssa jo vuosia kotitalouskoulua, jonka tarkoitus on jalostaa nuorista naisista täydellisiä vaimoja. Kun Pauletten mies yllättäen kuolee, joutuu nainen huolehtimaan konkurssin partaalla olevasta yrityksestään itse ja järjestämään koko elämänsä uudelleen. How to Be a Good Wife has at first glance an enticing premise and a really promising cast of three typologically completely different actresses: Juliette Binoche, Yolande Moreau, and Noémie Lvovsky, but it all falls apart due to a futile story and untapped potential, both in the characters and the setting, which is a real shame. The message framing is obvious and could easily have found its place in today's glut of feminist-themed films, but I still felt it could have been made in a more lively and humorous way. The final dance and music number had its charm, but it didn't fit the concept of the film at all. Better two stars!
