This is a story of an old man who tries to protect a train station from the capitalism's rapaciousness. In the course of his struggle, he makes up with his son, who is obsessed only with achieving financial success.
In the desolate land of Khost, Pakistan, lies a train station, which an avaricious capitalist from a nearby village tries to buy and redevelop. He frequently visits Wahid, the station master, to persuade him to sell the station. But Wahid is determined to protect it, a promise his wife made him make before she suddenly passed away. Wahid's son, Ehsaan, lives in a big city and is indifferent to his father, but eventually he begins to understand him and why he has decided to protect the station. This message is delivered in a single line by Wahid: "Land is the mother. You should not sell your mother."
After eight years in production, Mother succeeds in portraying the grand landscape of Baluchistan and encourages all of us to contemplate how we can better live our lives. (Busan International Film Festival)
