I admired the man who, after the festival screening of The Champion, at the end of a discussion with the makers of the movie, described this comedy as "a rich story with a different take on the basic Hollywood comedies," while The Champion fits into that formula perfectly and delivers classic plot clichés without any innovations or surprises. It is probably enough for most audiences, but even for a light, mindless comedy to take my mind off things, it just isn't enough for me. [KVIFF 2019]
