In her project in four episodes Fatal Reaction Marijke Jongbloed examines the question why women with higher educations have trouble finding a life partner. After first having searched in New York and Singapore, the director travelled to Bombay for the third part. Here, the liberties of girls have become entangled in age-long traditions, in which they are born ’to marry’ - in arranged marriages. However, after the Western model modern Indian women increasingly choose a proper education and a career. And if they are interested in marriage, they want to gain emotional satisfaction from it and be able to choose their own partners. An actress and a therapist talk about their clash with religion and family. Although they are happy with their social careers and their lives as single women, their environment shows little understanding for these personal choices.
