The Buoy

For many years, director Fernando Spiner and his friend, the poet Anibal Zaldívar, share the ritual of swimming out to a buoy in the sea by the beaches of Villa Gesell. And, on this occasion recorded by the film, this ritual takes on new meaning: Spiner explores the deep bond that he maintains with Zaldívar, and the elements and the people they have in common that have forged it over decades. And so, both friends remember Lito Spiner (Fernando’s father who, along with Zaldívar, took his first steps in poetry), reflect upon the critical support that the ocean provides to artists, talk with the inhabitants of the city and fulfill an old wish. The camera follows the characters on earth and in the water, creating its own poetics, and La boya is a celebration of how memory, the sea and friendship manage to circumvent any distance that exists between two loved ones.
