When you say Otto Wichterle, one will probably think of contact lenses made at home using a Merkur building kit. But this is only one chapter in the life of a famous Czech scientist, whose story is now approachable to the whole family. The animated show Stars by Czech Television allows even the youngest ones to learn about Czech history and the most prominent figures in art and science. The episode on Otto Wichterle explores the research beginnings of this native of Prostějov, who realised at an early age that science is fun. However, he had to face many complications associated with his poor health, World War II, and scientific research failures. But it is clear from the film that no one should give up or stop learning and creating. (Academia Film Olomouc)
