It is 1989. The nine-year-long Soviet-Afghan war is almost over. The Soviet Union begins its withdrawal from Afghanistan. A Soviet pilot gets captured by the mujahideen after his airplane crashes. It turns out he is General Vasilev’s son. As a result, the 108th motorized infantry division's return home gets put on hold for one last mission: bringing the general's son back. “My film is about down-to-earth patriotism, about the senselessness and cruelty of every war. And, as always, I show not one but several points of view. Some of my heroes say you have to go on bombing, you have to fight. But there are also those who say you should withdraw”, says Lungin. Based on true events, this is a story about the complexity of human nature during wartime. The film caused a lot of controversy in Russia. (Warsaw Film Festival)
