Mr. Mercedes

I found Stephen King's novel very intriguing, but I wasn't looking forward to the series. I'm usually disappointed by film or TV adaptations of King's books, so Mr. Mercedes was quite a nice shock. The creators managed to pull it off and everything was excellent - the cast, the atmosphere, the tension, as well as the soundtrack. Those minor deviations from the book didn't bother me in the least. I actually think some of them even benefited the story. Just like in the book, what I enjoyed the most were the mind games between Bill and Brady, and I hope the next season will be just as good. (25.07.2018)

I like Stephen King's books, I have read this one too and after the first part, I have to rate it with the highest score because it created the right atmosphere and even though I knew what it was about, the creators managed to create a pleasantly chilling tension. I am not sensitive, but I admit that the opening massacre was brutal and a raw spectacle, I do not recommend it to anyone who has lost a loved one in a traffic accident. Brendan Gleeson was excellent as always, I immediately believed in his aging detective. (23.07.2018)

After the second episode, I am a very satisfied viewer. Certainly, no one will find any frantic action here, but I didn't expect any either. Instead, the creators focused on the smoothness of the story and let Brendan Gleeson shine, who seems to be truly enjoying his role. (23.07.2018)

In the fourth episode, I went for the first time with a rating of one star below because I had the feeling that the story was slightly stagnating, and the creators focused instead on side and therefore less significant plot lines. Additionally, I almost liked Brady when I remembered how many important self-centered idiots I dealt with daily at work... (23.07.2018)

In the fifth episode, the creators once again focused on the main storyline and it paid off. The story really drew me in and I was able to enjoy the continuation of the psychological warfare between the main villain and the main hero. I was entertained from beginning to end and I traditionally praise Brendan Gleeson. (24.07.2018)

This was a peculiar episode, it had its pros and cons. A large portion of the plot was devoted to Brady's mother, but I didn't mind at all because Kelly Lynch delivered a very good performance, which gave the episode a slightly different (but high-quality) atmosphere. Holly finally appeared in the series, and I had some concerns about this character, but just like with the other characters, the creators really hit the mark and Justine Lupe was great. I perceived the frequent flashbacks negatively, and I didn't enjoy Brady's visions during his promotion interview at all. (24.07.2018)

I usually have some problems with the film (and television) adaptations of books that I have read, but I am really enjoying this series so far and I don't mind any differences. There were three episodes left, so I expected some drama, and I got it, and I know it won't get any better. (24.07.2018)

The plot did slow down a bit this time, but I didn't mind at all because the creators were able to focus on the psychology of each character. Holly is truly perfect, she was already well done by King, but the filmmakers didn't fall behind. Bill's interaction with his daughter was also interesting, but I admit that if I wanted to, I could find some flaw, but I just don't feel like it. (24.07.2018)

This time, I was not disappointed either, everything worked as it should and the creators clearly directed the story towards its conclusion. And they did it well. While the plot intensifies, the creators are very successful in gradually reducing the budget, saving at least one fee for each episode after the seventh part. (25.07.2018)

The final episode did disappoint me a little bit, but only a little. After all, I expected the last part to be slightly more significant. I didn't quite understand the strangely concluded meeting with Lou, but the outcome essentially matches the book's original version, and it even included an open ending for a sequel - "The Rights of the Finder". As satisfied as I was after the first season, the second one was a disappointment. I wasn't that annoyed by the creators skipping the second book. What bothered me was how poor the writing was. All too often, I was bored, all too often staring in disbelief at how the rules of logic were bent, and there wasn’t much in the way of entertainment. The worst thing is that Season 3 is waiting for me now, and after this experience I’m not all that excited about it. (29.07.2020)

I saw the first season two years ago and I had a very good feeling about it. However, the first episode of the second season did not evoke a similar feeling in me. I have gotten used to the fact that first episodes of new series are often average, but that did not apply here. This was simply a boring episode without any pace, the creators mainly offered me shifts between the hospital and the cemetery, which is a well-tested procedure in Havířov, so I was not entertained. The second episode was on par with the first in terms of quality, only the visits to the cemetery were omitted. The plot dragged on more than walking through a wet field, but I must admit that the book source material was not something I couldn't tear myself away from either. My advantage is that I read relatively quickly, whereas with each episode I have to endure a slow pace. 2*+ (26.07.2020)

No excitement came this time either, but at least I finally had a feeling that something was happening. Not that much was happening, but I am already glad for even a little bit. If there is anything that does not interest me at all in the plot so far, it is the visits to Brady's head, they are really annoying. (26.07.2020)

I closed my better eye and let the rating jump over to the fourth star. The pace of the story actually picked up in the fourth episode, there was even some Zappit action, and I enjoyed watching this episode a bit more. So the extra half star is more of an investment for the future, with the expectation of improvement. 4* (26.07.2020)

This time, I eventually decided to give it a four-star rating, even though they are not very strong four pieces. Anyway, I feel that the plot of the story starts to move after the initial slump. It's just a shame about some (unnecessary for me) scenes. (28.07.2020)

Hmmm, I could hardly dare to have higher expectations, but the creators came up with an episode that I really didn't enjoy; I now understand the character Lou only as an annoying creature, whom the screenwriter uses only to create unnecessary scenes. Yes, there was certainly plenty of fluff here, but important plot developments were few and far between. (28.07.2020)

Skoda, under different circumstances, I could easily enjoy the seventh episode, except for the unnecessary game on the part of the creators. Some passages were so blatant that I could only look in disbelief (and disgust). After the first season, which I liked a lot, I feel somewhat deceived. (28.07.2020)
