Kruh in mleko

Thanks to a doctors' strike, Ivan is released from rehab one day early, and comes home to a flat where his wife and addicted son aren't expecting him yet. The next day, his wife sends him on an errand to buy some bread and milk. However, he encounters an old buddy who drags him to a pub where he learns about his wife's past. The director's award-winning debut is made in contrasting, minimalist black and white, showing empathy for its characters who keep doing their best, but it somehow never works out. The bitter humour, subtle and multi-layered acting performances, and energetic pub punk rock support the intense report on drinking, Slovenian character, and family. (Febiofest)
