Goliath

I had slightly mixed feelings about the first episode, but then I got totally absorbed in the series. I see it as an excellent drama with elements of thriller about a fight of a bunch of losers around Billy McBride (Billy Bob Thornton) against a nearly omnipotent defense corporation, represented by the law firm of his long-time nemesis, Donald Cooperman (William Hurt). The season had an excellent atmosphere almost all along, it included a number of cunning twists and very decent to excellent acting performances. I was a little disappointed by the outcome of the trial, which was fortunately not the last scene and it turned out much better in the end. I would definitely highlight the soundtrack and the excellent opening credits. (27.03.2021)

After the first episode, I'm not entirely sure if it's a drama, the first part felt more like a thriller to me. The basic storyline is traditional, something more than just a supposed suicide emerges, a big company holds control over everyone with threats and money, it's simply not very original. Under normal circumstances, I would give it three stars, but Billy Bob Thornton is so good that I haven't seen a movie or series that wouldn't be better by having him, so I'll give it four stars. The second episode went incredibly well, things started moving, William Hurt is no longer just lying in the corner and he's starting to show who is really the bad guy in the background. Billy Bob Thornton is so disgustingly natural in his role that it must make his colleagues feel inferior, and I have started to enjoy the plot so much that I would prefer to watch the remaining six episodes all at once, but I'm just human. Well, kind of. By the way, the ending of the second episode was brutally dramatic, I praise it! (07.01.2017)

Only in the third episode of the series did there come a departure from the thriller and a transition to drama, along with a shift of the plot to the courtrooms. Based on this episode, it seems to me that our legal system is a walk in the park compared to the American one. Anyway, it is certain that the plot really grabbed me and didn't let go until the end credits. (07.01.2017)

The fourth episode smoothly develops the plot of the previous parts. Billy Bob Thornton really entertains me in every scene he appears in. Molly Parker is also becoming more and more prominent and she is beautifully cunning. However, William Hurt dominated the ending and I hope I can get the final scene out of my head before going to sleep, otherwise I can see it turning into a decent nightmare. (07.01.2017)

Great episode with a wonderfully dark atmosphere, maybe it's because we can visit Donald Cooperman more often, who sits in his office like a particularly ugly spider in his web. I increasingly like the complexity of the individual characters and how the mood of the whole episode changes after a single sentence is spoken. I'm already looking forward to the next one! It is interesting that the series maintains such a high quality from the second episode onwards. The first episode left me uncertain, but now I only have two episodes left and I am already nervous because I have become extremely fond of the series. The battle of the brains between McBride and Cooperman is fantastic, and it is clear that both Billy Bob Thornton and William Hurt are thoroughly enjoying it. (08.01.2017)

The penultimate episode is behind me, and surprisingly, I am still not disappointed. I'm not complaining, on the contrary, I am pleasantly surprised. I was afraid that as the end approached, the script would "slip out of the hands" of the creators and would hastily rush to a conclusion that would quickly and illogically be resolved, and hurrah, we would be at the finish line, as often happens. But it didn't happen that way. I saw an excellent episode with a perfect atmosphere and fantastic performances, although I must admit that Billy Bob Thornton and William Hurt clearly dominate. The final episode excellently maintained the carefully built atmosphere from the second part. There were several nice twists in the process, Donald Cooperman testified in court, and the conclusion of the series pleased me because it wasn't a typical American sugarcoating. I'm glad I got to see the second season. I had a great time watching it, not even a single episode was boring, and Billy Bob Thornton was in excellent shape as usual. That said, I wasn’t as impressed by this season as by the first one. After having seen both, I can honestly say that I would not want someone like Billy McBride to represent me in court. The plot caught me off guard a few times, but I have to admit, I was thoroughly entertained throughout and never once felt bored. Billy Bob Thornton's minimalist acting is a highlight for me; he effortlessly conveys the character's emotions and keeps me engaged. The chamber-conversational passage that took up a significant portion of the seventh episode was straight out of a Tarantino movie :-) I'm usually critical of episodes that deviate from the main storyline and end up as mere 'filler' without contributing to the plot. I was afraid this would be the case here. However, I quickly realized I was wrong because this turned out to be the best episode of the second season for me. (29.03.2021)

The finale of the second season left me somewhat disappointed, especially after the strong previous episode. Not to say there weren't well-executed moments, but there were also parts that didn't quite resonate with me, making the whole experience feel somewhat unconvincing. I consider the third season definitely the weakest one so far. I was looking forward to another legal battle full of intrigue and manipulation. What I got instead was this weird sort of mess that was trying to convince me using frequent hallucinations that the crows are not what they seem. For the first time, I was bored by this series at times, which was the last thing I had expected. A shame. (03.04.2021)

The opening of the third season left me feeling a bit puzzled. It kicked off in an epic manner, and I was once again entertained by Billy McBride's polite yet persistent quest for information.
