Stone, wood, glittering glass, but also a 3D -printed thermoplastic polymer, a graphene ink, or a bit of the sky in a solid state. We live in an age where the limits of material variety are shifting thanks to the fine -tuning of technology and a refined sense for the search for unique alternatives. In the production of new materials, scientists frequently come up against a thin line connecting up the animate and the inanimate world. For wider society, this process brings certain unexpected changes in the understanding of natural processes. A man can feel the structure of material with a bionic hand, photosynthesis may even work without chlorophyll and the astronomers of NASA have created a bluish stone made out of stardust. The Secret Life of Materials is not merely a gallery showing off the most interesting matter on Earth. This document popularizes research into materials which can replace non -renewable natural resources, or inspire the fashion industry. The story of the genesis of new matter begins in the inanimate world, which is becoming an unparalleled living substance under the influence of humanity. (Academia Film Olomouc)
