Henry Gamble's Birthday Party

Henry Gamble has a bit of a problem. His father is an Evangelical megachurch preacher, but Henry isn't likely to follow in his footsteps. It seems like he has feelings for other boys at school, which could put him on a dangerous collision course with his family and their beliefs. Things reach a fever pitch at Henry's 17th birthday party, as the outdoor pool fills up with chlorine, schoolmates, and mounting tension. Henry's parents have their own struggles, wrestling with the fallout of a particularly difficult incident that drives a wedge between them and their friends. When the partygoers arrive, including an alcoholic colleague of his father's, an unrepentant atheist, and a sweet boy who shows Henry some affection, the pool turns into an existential fire pit. With marvelous performances led by newcomer Cole Doman and a soundtrack full of new wave gems, HENRY GAMBLE'S BIRTHDAY PARTY is a warm indie about acceptance and self-discovery that packs a surprising amount of heart.
