The Secret Life of Breasts

Breasts are a unique part of our physique and undergo number of changes throughout our lives. Nevertheless, this part of the body has never received much scientific attention. This documentary reveals the secret of their importance in a mother's and child's life and presents some alarming facts. The filmmakers try to outline the influence of the environment and the consequent development of anomalies through four stories. From the physiological point of view, breasts comprise of a complex vascular system, mammary glands and 60% fat, which is responsible for the range of bra sizes from A to F. In spite of their important function, during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, they suffer with hormonal fluctuations that do not only concern women. Gynecomastia, a hormonal enlargement of breast tissue in males, is an increasingly frequent phenomenon. Analyses of breast tissue show the presence of pesticides and chemicals. Food in plastic containers, toys, deodorants and armchairs are all potential sources of contamination of breasts, the producers of the most important substance – breast milk. Breasts are therefore undoubtedly another indicator of the deteriorating situation on planet Earth. (Academia Film Olomouc)
