It is late spring of 1942, and the Great Patriotic War is in full swing. A long way off from the front-line, at some God-forgotten junction, the Germans make an air landing operation in an attempt to get through to the Kirov railway and the White Sea - the Baltic Sea Canal. I can’t help but feel that movies like this are shot by the Russians probably only for the Russian to rouse them and show them how big patriots they are supposed to be. Truthfully, I don’t see anything all that nice about the movie, except for the technical aspect, which is relatively faithful in the atmosphere of the Second World War in the area near Finland. Likewise, a few action scenes aren’t completely useless. The screenwriter was probably bribed by Putin, though, because what he threw the girls into is unparalleled. Marvel-like heroines, a tragedy equal to the recently abolished kolkhoz.

What a pleasant surprise! I was hoping that the Russians would try to improve on the original film, but I had no idea they would do such a great job. As I was watching the fighting in the woods and rocks, I thought that the makers of Lone Survivor should be made to watch the film to learn how it's done. I had fun all the way through and didn't even realize that two hours had passed. Satisfaction.

I can't help it, but this is simply just a remake. A remake that is more action-packed than the original movie, a bit more intense, but otherwise completely the same and an hour shorter. However, it was precisely the poeticism and focus on the characters that I enjoyed much more in the original movie, which this movie simply didn't surpass. It's a good action spectacle, but compared to the original film, it's almost emotionless for me.
