The specific stages of the life-cycle of butterflies are taught to children as early as elementary school. We know, based on photographs as well as observation, what the individual stages look like. But what happens in between? How does the larva emerge from the egg and what does it look like when the larva decides to pupate? This fascinating documentary on the life of a butterfly reveals many of the mysteries contained in the tiny world of insects. The main protagonist of this observational documentary is the Old World Swallowtail, one of the largest and most beautiful Czech butterflies. High framerate HD cameras capture not just the intricate details of their beauty, but go even further thanks to the techniques of fast and slow motion photography. The film invites us to enjoy a captivating excursion into the life of butterflies and exposes some less well known facts, such as information on the first meals of the butterfly larvae or on how long it takes for the butterfly's wings to unfold for the first time.
