We had no internet or mobile phones in 1990. Over the next few years, however, digital technology changed the world beyond recognition. Was it a change for the better or for the worse? Rapid technological development has changed all aspects of people's lives, from healthcare and economics to our culture, and often makes our lives easier. But is there any place for privacy in today's world? Can computers be smarter than people? How far can we go with cybernetic research? The Digital Promise, created in collaboration with the ArtFutura festival of digital culture and creativity, is a documentary that brings forth a number of current and unsettling questions. Prominent scientists, artists and writers seek answers to these questions, recapitulate the recent past and predict the future of humanity under the rule of supercomputers and artificial intelligence. While some individuals are more optimistic, others fear further development and talk about possible threats. One thing is certain: no matter what path new technologies take, the world will never be the same as it was twenty-five years ago. (Academia Film Olomouc)
