Six years ago when global economic crisis broke out in the United States, many Americans took a good look on the flipside of the coin called "American dream". Chinese director Li Cheng who has lived in the United States since 1999 gives us a plausible take on the problem. Set in the U.S. heartland following the burst of a real estate bubble, it is a story of Kate, a recently divorced suburban mother of two young girls struggles to hold onto her American dream. Facing home foreclosure and trying to cement her inhibited and dysfunctional family, she finds herself with few opportunities. Family, friends, workplace, business, media and community connections are laid bare, while her father, family patriarch Alan, faces an especially painful search for redemption. (IFF Bratislava)
