Last February, Slovak media discussed the exodus of a statistically relevant group of Roma from the infamous Košice housing project Luník IX to Gent, Belgium. The most interesting about the entire matter was the reaction of Belgian authorities that bordered on panic. A graduation film by Ruben Desiere is a portrait of the Mročs, one of many Romani families that have found shelter in the Gesu convent in Brussels. After three years of slow and complicated settling, the family is evicted and must start anew. The chosen observation method, long shots and authentic appearance of the main protagonists create a powerful portrait of migrants' life in the "promised land". (IFF Bratislava)
