Philippe de Broca is a great director, no doubt about that. But with The Devil by the Tail, I felt like the story was missing someone who could just let loose and enjoy it without trying so hard to play the aristocracy card. Sure, the actresses were great to look at, that’s a given, but the male characters really got on my nerves with their uptight, bourgeois attitudes. There were a few scenes that made me laugh, though.
