Making Stuff Wilder is one of the four episodes of the TV series called Making Stuff. It was broadcast in 2013 by PBS America TV within their science programme NOVA. All four episodes (Making Stuff Wilder, Faster, Safer and Colder) are narrated by David Pogue, the journalist, former columnist for the New York Times and Emmy Award winner. In a truly diverting and visually engaging style, he introduces some new scientific discoveries and their potential benefi ts to humankind. The Making Stuff Wilder episode is devoted to scientists who have found the inspiration for their research in nature. Nature is an unbeatable inventor from time immemorial. The scientists aim to discover its most efficient mechanisms and put them into practice. Pogue meets several specialists and learns about their current projects, which were inspired by observing animals, plants and people. Thus we are literally 30 seconds from a new generation of robotic arms, resembling elephants’ trunks, and from less dependence on oil due to the slime of the hagfish. (Academia Film Olomouc)
