Lentokapteeni Rayford Steelen (Nicolas Cage) tytär Chloe päättää yllättää isänsä tämän syntymäpäivänä. Yllätysjuhlat menevät kuitenkin mönkään, koska isä joutuu lähtemään työmatkalle. Juhlien sijaan Chloe lähtee ostoksille pikkuveljensä kanssa. Kauppakeskuksen kuhina keskeytyy karmealla tavalla, kun osa ihmisistä katoaa kuin savuna ilmaan. Someone here really didn't know what they wanted to shoot, whether it was a mysterious sci-fi movie, a disaster film, or a human drama. The problem is that none of them work. The introduction is too drawn out and essentially nothing happens. We get acquainted with characters that we're not interested in, and then for over an hour we watch something that doesn't even entertain us. Not a single storyline is properly resolved, and that's not just because they are all poorly written and filmed.
