In the modernised version of the novel Sárdi László, the deserted theologian and country poet comes to the capital, Budapest in 1968 with his elder lover to "make it". Though he gradually learns the tricks of progressing in cultural life at the price of smaller failures, he is not able to adapt beyond a certain limit, for quality and human relations are important for him. Suddenly all doors close in front of him, his actress lover dies in a car accident caused by her tense state of nerves. Sárdi László (i.e. Lucien de Rubempré) now indeed sets out for "victory" to the real Paris. (jakelijan virallinen teksti)
