Season 1 (2013) (S01)

englanti I'm giving Season 1 five stars, but it’s only because I'm turning a blind eye to some major flaws. The creators seemed to have struggled a little with the passage of time (Ada's pregnancy), but the biggest problem for me was the lack of violence. I doubt that you could just talk your way out of a problem in 1919 England. I think that if someone decides to make a series about gangs, they can’t just avoid violence, and if they do, it ends up looking weird. Anyway, Cillian Murphy sure can stare daggers, I wouldn't want to get in a stare off with him. ()

Episode 1 (2013) (S01E01)

englanti Red Right Hand immediately at the opening credits and I was already trembling with joy. England, 1919 and the cast pleased me, even before the episode really started, I suspected a five-star rating. However... The plot, screenplay, performances, and dialogues were excellent but expected (and inevitable) violence didn't come until Inspector Campbell, which unpleasantly surprised me. I have no choice but to wait for further development. ()

Episode 2 (2013) (S01E02)

englanti I am currently very much enjoying the story, but the creators inexplicably save on action, it's all gangs here, but when it comes to violence, usually the police led by Inspector Campbell are involved, which is really strange. It seems that the creators have opted for a path of tactics, intrigue, and manipulation. Aunt Polly has started to really interest me, I hope it lasts for her. ()

Episode 3 (2013) (S01E03)

englanti For the third episode, I added some rating, another dead person is indeed attributed to Inspector Campbell and his team, but at the races, there was also some representation of my disliked minority, so I expect improvement in the action aspect in the next episodes and the fifth star is actually like a backup. ()

Episode 4 (2013) (S01E04)

englanti I think I finally understand, the biggest killer is undoubtedly Inspector Campbell, who, unlike the gangsters, has added another notch to his belt, while Thomas Shelby behaves like an experienced ruler following the divide and conquer formula, choosing strategically advantageous marriage instead of violence. I'm enjoying it more and more, but I would really welcome a larger portion of action. ()

Episode 5 (2013) (S01E05)

englanti Sometimes I criticize movies and series for having too much violence that doesn't contribute to the story at all, with Peaky Blinders I have the exact opposite feeling, a proper dose of violence would give the series the missing juice. However, I still rate it with a full number of stars because I simply enjoy this matter. ()

Episode 6 (2013) (S01E06)

englanti I would rate the final episode with five stars, but I was really annoyed by the way the creators messed up the first proper clash between the gangs that was building up. This is how I would probably feel if someone stole my wallet and then smugly laughed at me. Anyway, it's still true that I'm looking forward to watching the next season. ()

Season 2 (2014) (S02)

englanti The second season was significantly weaker than the previous one. The individual episodes always contained one or two really good scenes, but then they started losing pace. I also felt like the creators didn’t come up with anything new. It was basically the same thing as in Season 1, only with different adversaries. What I appreciated was the season finale and the fantastic Alfie Solomons played by Tom Hardy. 4*- ()

Episode 1 (2014) (S02E01)

englanti I didn't have high expectations, and good thing I didn't. It was a typical slow start, setting up the storyline for the new season. The creators did a solid job of that, but I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't anything fresh; only the gang's enemies change. 4*- ()

Episode 2 (2014) (S02E02)

englanti I expected more than just a jazzed-up version of a reunion show mixed with a real estate pitch. I wasn't particularly entertained until Tom Hardy showed up as the leader of the Jewish gang. Overall, it was a bit of a letdown. ()

Episode 3 (2014) (S02E03)

englanti The recruitment of new bakers was fantastic, and the realistic throat-slitting scene was quite impressive. Surprisingly, I even enjoyed the auction scene — if I knew these things had such exciting endings, it might just become my new favorite pastime. ()

Episode 4 (2014) (S02E04)

englanti Another solid episode. Watching the gang, it's clear they either need to take care of the bereaved better or try harder to keep people from dying unnecessarily; otherwise, they might go bankrupt. The situation in London promises some exciting developments — I just hope it doesn’t all get resolved around a table again. ()

Episode 5 (2014) (S02E05)

englanti This episode really ticked me off. It started off strong, making me think I was in for something spectacular, but then it took a nosedive. The plot fizzled out, and most of the episode felt dull. The whole segment about adding women to Shelby's harem just didn't do it for me. ()

Episode 6 (2014) (S02E06)

englanti Finally, the season finale managed to wipe away the bad taste left by the previous episode. Alfie Solomons would be lost without his notes on who his friends are, and the events at Epsom were genuinely entertaining. This is how the show should have been all along: fun and engaging with no dull moments. ()

Season 3 (2016) (S03)

englanti I liked Season 3 as a whole more than the previous one despite the terrible opening episode. It took me a while to get used to the change of setting. Eventually, I did, as all the characters were still major scumbags. The individual episodes seemed more balanced compared to the second season. The main villain was a priest, which I greatly appreciated. Although the women in the Shelby family got on my nerves towards the end, they sure did stir up the relationship between the brothers. ()

Episode 1 (2016) (S03E01)

englanti *What a letdown. The first seven minutes were just a boring wedding ceremony, and it didn't get much better after that. It felt like the creators were testing the patience of loyal viewers. Hopefully, they haven't pushed it too far. So far, this was clearly the worst episode of the entire series. ()

Episode 2 (2016) (S03E02)

englanti The previous episode must have been made by a completely different team (especially the writer). This time, I saw the Peaky Blinders I'm used to from the first season. The episode had a great atmosphere, tension, and action, rekindling my hope for the quality of future episodes. ()

Episode 3 (2016) (S03E03)

englanti A pretty solid episode. All the subplots were interesting, though Tommy’s trip to Wales felt a bit unnecessary. I was much more intrigued by the resolution of the "Changretta" situation and the pressure on the foreman at the car factory. ()

Episode 4 (2016) (S03E04)

englanti I have a few gripes about this episode. For the first time, Aunt Polly let me down, and Saint Linda was an absolute disaster (I'm not a fan of goody-two-shoes). Plus, yet another woman couldn't resist Tommy — poor guy, as if he doesn't have enough on his plate already. Otherwise, I was quite pleased; the gun delivery subplot is getting nicely complicated. ()

Episode 5 (2016) (S03E05)

englanti If the creators didn't get carried away by Russian orgies, I would rate it easily with five pieces. However, this passage was very boring and unnecessarily long. Again, Alfie Solomons appeared on the scene and I really enjoyed it again. All the plots are nicely prepared before the final episode. ()
