Do the natural sciences have the right to intervene in areas of religion, or are questions about the supernatural solely the responsibility of theologians ? This question lost part of its meaning when a direct link between temporal lobe epilepsy and religious visions was discovered. The filmmakers present a new field, neuroteology, and ask its representatives fundamental questions about the origin of religious beliefs, the neural nature of faith and the possibility of the holy prophets having had brain diseases. We will never know whether Moses or St. Paul suffered from epilepsy, but new forms of brain research have shown us that faith is not of a supernatural nature, but falls within the scope of the natural sciences. It is possible that the sensitivity of some brain modules in humans can cause a talent for faith or the ability to meditate. In this documentary one of the most prominent contemporary atheists, Richard Dawkins, undergoes an experiment that suggests he is faith-immune. He then asks the question, which is, for him as an evolutionary biologist, crucial in relation to religion: What is the function of religion in human evolution? (Academia Film Olomouc)
