A young Irishman, Friend, travels to the edge of the Antarctic circle to replace the remote island’s previous meteorologist. The only other inhabitant of the island is the lighthouse caretaker, Gruner, a deranged brute, who has witnessed a horror he refuses to name. Soon Friend realizes that something else lurks on the island, when nightly invasions of unknown creatures emerge in the dark from the ocean. (Samuel Goldwyn Films US)

englanti Cold Skin proves that being a butcher skilled in filmmaking is not the same as being a generally skillful director, or rather a director capable of, for example, comprehensively telling a story with sensitive development of the meeting of two species. Cold Skin is neither fish nor fowl, a dysfunctional film that Xavier Gens gradually transforms from a survival horror flick into a fantasy tale with heart. Halfway through, however, something in it goes off the rails and the result evokes only a bitter smile. The theme and the setting of a rugged volcanic coastline had potential and, in light of the budget and production possibilities, it could be forgiven for its mediocre digital rendering. ()

englanti Feel free to think of me as a conservative cock blocker, but I'm just not that into this kind of interspecies intimacy. Farm animals don't attract me sexually, and the idea of my cuddling with an amphibian is out of the question. So, the film wasn’t my kind of thing in this respect, although, in real life, Aura Garrido's mom and dad should really be proud. The plot wasn't bad in itself, the actors were really making an effort, and because I like Lovecraft's short stories (I assume the writers were inspired by them), I would have given a higher rating if it hadn’t been so anticlimactic.
