D.J. Caruso has probably filmed it all; a crime investigation movie, a comedy, a sci-fi and now he’s gotten himself into a family drama. When I watched it, I felt the same as when I turned on the long-dead Hallmark TV and watched a wishy-washy family story. Except for the fact that with a director like this you should get a solid spectacle. Which didn’t really happen, even though I have to admit that it gave me some food for thought. Actually, I’m trying in vain to figure out whether I’ve ever seen a philosophical family drama. When it comes to the actors, it took a while before I got used to them, but then I realized that it takes very little for someone in a family to irreversibly destroy a kid’s childhood and I related to the situation quite quickly. A very sensitive movie.
