Like many other boys from religious families, from the very outset, Jésus Colin was captivated as a small child by the atmosphere of Catholic ceremonies in Mexican churches. He wanted to become an altar boy and later a priest. At just eleven years of age, however, this dream began to turn into a nightmare. Father Carlos was a Catholic priest in whom he had unlimited trust and whom he perceived as a paternal figure. Then this priest started sexually abusing him. Little Jésus was ashamed and he did not want to aggrieve his mother, who viewed Father Carlos as an unimpeachable authority. So he remained silent about being abused for a long time. Nonetheless, he decided to openly tell the whole story to director Alejandra Sánchez, whilst also uncovering how deeply the spirit of a small child was affected by sexual abuse. Even more appalling than Jesus's trauma, however, is the fact that Father Carlos is still serving Mass in Mexico to this day, and the local bishop has rejected or disparages the accusations that have been made against him, not to mention the attitude of the Catholic Church, which has still not faced up to similar cases and has shamefully swept them under the carpet. This sincere, moving portrait with impressive music and an inventive filmic approach also records Jésus's efforts today, as an adult, to meet Father Carlos and find out why the priest ruined his life.
