Lies, Amplifiers, Fucking Twitter (2018) (S07E08)

englanti I didn't find myself nitpicking for flaws for the first time in the seventh season because I genuinely enjoyed the plot of the episode. I even chuckled at the agents' explanation of how they managed to lose a valuable witness – it was spot-on! Overall, it was well-executed, although I can't help but notice that the writers seem to be recycling dramatic conversations between the sisters from previous seasons. They could easily use a line like: (Maggie) "Here's your 67th and final chance, otherwise..." ()

Useful Idiot (2018) (S07E09)

englanti Either the ninth episode triggered a strong sense of déjà vu in me, or the creators decided to dive back into repetitive territory. Once again, I found myself witnessing the same old sisterly rift, once again, decisions were made for Franny's best interest with predictable outcomes, and once again, there was a nerve-wracking breakdown. Oh, and let's not forget the messages sent via Twitter. ()

Clarity (2018) (S07E10)

englanti Well, well, well, wasn't that a surprise with Franny, huh? Seriously, who would've seen that coming? Carrie is starting to feel less and less believable to me. Even if I were to entertain the idea that they'd let her take some action in her mental state, I certainly wouldn't picture her as an operative. I mean, sure, it's been hinted at in previous seasons, but it's getting less and less realistic. ()

All In (2018) (S07E11)

englanti Despite its flaws, the plot didn't irk me much. The creators injected some real action, and it made a noticeable difference. Yet, it wasn't just the action scenes; the quality of the negotiations between both delegations was top-notch, making for an enjoyable episode overall. ()

Paean to the People (2018) (S07E12)

englanti Well, that ending was quite the surprise twist! It's a testament to the creators' ingenuity, really. With that single plot twist, they could've condensed the entire series into just three solid episodes. What a missed opportunity! On another note, I was genuinely taken aback by what you can buy for a small amount of sugar in today's overpriced world. ()

Season 8 (2020) (S08)

englanti The eighth season was unbalanced, and the fairytale finale was a huge disappointment for me. All in all, it was a far cry from the Homeland I knew years ago when the series started, although there were moments when the creators seemed to have remembered their early work. 4*- ()

Deception Indicated (2020) (S08E01)

englanti Despite my reservations about the seemingly unhinged Carrie being the CIA's main asset for the Kabul mission, I'll admit that the beginning of the eighth season took me by surprise. After the debacle of the previous season, I never imagined that I would still find Homeland as enjoyable as I once did. ()

Catch and Release (2020) (S08E02)

englanti It's hard to say what exactly happened here. Either the creators started taking something or they stopped taking it. After the missteps of the seventh season, they managed to recapture the essence of Homeland, a series I once counted among my favorites. ()

False Friends (2020) (S08E03)

englanti The episode left me somewhat underwhelmed, making it the weakest one thus far. However, despite its shortcomings, there's still a lingering essence of the atmosphere that initially drew me to the series, which seems to be making a comeback. It feels like the creators are attempting to recapture the essence of what made the show great in the first place, and it seems to be working. ()

Chalk One Up (2020) (S08E04)

englanti I didn't like how the creators handled logic in this episode. I couldn't help but recall the meticulous security measures taken during the visit of the American president to Prague, where even manhole covers were sealed. Here, the screenwriter had only one helicopter assigned to cover a vital object in a war zone, and its crew failed to notice when the object vanished into thin air. Funny. Maybe. Or maybe not? ()

Chalk Two Down (2020) (S08E05)

englanti In contrast to the last episode, I found myself nudging the rating up. Either the logic held up better this time around (or maybe I've just grown accustomed to it). There was an added layer of tension, particularly in the action sequences. Now, I'm intrigued to see which of the two new presidents will emerge as the bigger moron. My money's on the American. ()

Two Minutes (2020) (S08E06)

englanti While I did enjoy myself, there were still a few irksome moments. Yet, it's a whole other level compared to the terrible seventh season. It might not reach the same heights of quality as before, but I'm not inclined to nitpick unnecessarily. ()

F**ker Shot Me (2020) (S08E07)

englanti The seventh episode might not have had the same adrenaline rush as the fifth, but it's currently my favorite of the eighth season. It had that classic Homeland vibe where Carrie stops at nothing to achieve her objectives, Saul's trying to make impossible deals, and this time, instead of Brody, we've got the Afghan Sandokan. It kept me on the edge of my seat and entertained throughout. ()

Threnody(s) (2020) (S08E08)

englanti The logic hiccups continued to plague the eighth episode. There's just something about Costa Ronin's characters that never fails to impress me. Whether he's a KGB officer in The Americans or a GRU officer here, I love his portrayal of a loyal patriot with an ulterior motive. ()

In Full Flight (2020) (S08E09)

englanti Ah, well, not every episode can be a winner. The creators started off strong, but somewhere along the way, they seemed to lose their footing, and this episode fell a bit flat for me. The main issue? It was just too predictable. It felt like I could see every twist coming from a mile away, which might catch someone off guard if they hadn't watched the earlier seasons or had a fuzzy memory of them. ()

Designated Driver (2020) (S08E10)

englanti This episode was much better compared to the previous one. I'm not entirely sure if the creators intended to highlight the Russian threat through these political maneuvers, but what scared me most wasn't the Russians or the Taliban — it was that clueless puppet in the Oval Office. ()

The English Teacher (2020) (S08E11)

englanti In the eleventh episode, an old sore spot of the series resurfaced, one that the creators seem to struggle with - the need to sacrifice logic for the sake of the story. Jenna Bragg became the Jar Jar Binks of the eighth season, and beyond everything else, what grated on me the most was the notion that Carrie would somehow move freely after her release without constant surveillance. Isn't this supposed to be a spy series? ()

Prisoners of War (2020) (S08E12)

englanti Now, that's what I call a "grand" finale. Does every American show have to have a fairy-tale ending? The last sentence of the script probably read "And they all lived happily ever after." I find myself longing for a confrontation with reality. ()
