Based on David Sedaris' autobiographical short story originally featured in Naked, the film follows David (MrGroff), who decides to attempt to immerse himself in "the real world," and goes "off the grid" following his graduation from Yale to work at an apple farm under an alias. Failing to fit in amongst the locals and migrant workers, David begins a journey that will take him deep into unfamiliar, awkward, and frequently hilarious territory as he encounters would-be benefactors and friends alike. englanti For some reason, lately I have been stumbling across a number of American films focused on the topic of God. I’m kind of used to the fact that Americans are a bit overzealous in this respect, and as soon as an orthodox director shows up, they immediately lay it on thick for the audience. C.O.G. looks like an artsy movie. The protagonist is a boy from the upper class who wants to experience the life in American countryside and so he goes there. He goes there as someone who knows their own mind, insisting on being an atheist. At the end, however, he ends up believing that God got him where He wanted him. That is back to the beginning of his journey. In the beginning, this film looks quite interesting, because it portrays the boy as someone who carves his own destiny. The camera shows us never-ending apple orchards and it’s quite pleasant to watch. However, the moment the gay redneck appears it all goes downhill, the whole apple tree message fades into nothing and the only thing we’re left with is God. ()
