No Ordinary Family

Sometimes, despite ideal conditions, things just don't work out. A pleasant topic, family values, and a great cast cannot save a series that can't decide whether it wants to teach that cheating and lying to parents is really bad or to tell a story about cunning individuals from society who are interested in unique abilities. Furthermore, instead of introducing more long-term storylines, there are more logical errors, and Julie Benz becomes the most annoying character in the series, which is quite an achievement. Autumn Reeser saves the day as the adorable geek Katie, who dreams about Wolverine, uses comic book metaphors for everything, and effortlessly steals every scene. The second surprising triumph is Josh Stewart as the unreadable "observer." His stone-like facial muscles and gruffly incomprehensible diction teeter precisely between parody and intention, and over time, he became the main hero of the series for me. I don't want to discredit the entire family and attribute its qualities to just a few actors, but the truth remains that after the first and only season, its overall image is quite diluted. 50% (24.07.2012)
