David Tennant and Patrick Stewart star in this critically acclaimed production of Shakespeare's masterpiece from Britain's renowned Royal Shakespeare Company. No recent stage production in Britain has attracted the excitement and nearly unanimous critical praise as this Hamlet. Tennant's interpretation was recognized as defining the role fora generation, and Stewart's complex Claudius won the Olivier award, Britain's highest stage honor. In this specially-shot screen version, filmed on location rather than in the theater, Tennant and Stewart reprise their roles. Dynamic, exciting and contemporary, it breathes newlife into Shakespeare's greatest play. (jakelijan virallinen teksti)

englanti Shakespeare or not, a three-hour dose of centuries-old classical language is quite a demanding spectacle for me, as a viewer who doesn't often go to the theater. Patrick Stewart plays with his own nobility, Mariah Gale is a perfect fit as the tender Ophelia, but during the dialogues of the supporting characters, I quickly began to cautiously get bored and always searched for when the prince himself would appear on stage. Master Tennant truly embodies Hamlet down to the last gesture. From the first passionate line, through melodramatic tears in which he is at his strongest, to wild madness where he even utilizes his perfect comedic talent. His Danish prince may not become part of history, but it is precisely David's open expression that elevated the hackneyed old English classic into a resonating experience for me. ()

englanti If you think that Shakespearean plays modernized into contemporary settings cannot work, then Hamlet from 2009 will convince you that it can. Patrick Stewart is perfectly suited for the role of Claudius, while David Tennant convinces us that he can handle Hamlet. It’s a bit too long, but it's bearable. ()
