Dé lives in the slum quarter in the South Zone of Cantagalo. As the son of Bernadete, a house servant and abandoned by his father, he has learned the hardships of earning an honest living while surrounded by crime. Despite many misfortunes, he manages to keep his dignity by working as a hotdog vendor at a kiosk on the beach. One day while at the beach, Dé meets Nina, the only child to a rich lawyer who lives in the Vieira Souto Avenue in front of the Beach of Ipanema.
