Uurastettuaan vuosisatoja ypöyksin siinä tehtävässä, mihin se oli alun perin rakennettu, WALL•E (lyhenne sanoista Wattipää Automaatti Likasyöppö Lastari • Ekokone) löytää elämälleen uuden tarkoituksen (krääsän keräämisen lisäksi), kun se tapaa viehättävän etsintärobotin nimeltä EVA. EVA hoksaa pian, että WALL•E on huomaamattaan keksinyt ratkaisun, jolla voidaan pelastaa planeetan tulevaisuus, ja kiiruhtaa kertomaan uutisen ihmisille (jotka ovat kärsimättömästi odottaneet sanaa siitä, olisiko kotiin jo turvallista palata). Samaan aikaan WALL•E etsii EVA:a ympäri galaksia ja tulee käynnistäneeksi yhden elokuvahistorian jännittävimmistä ja mielikuvituksellisimmista seikkailukomedioista. Mukaansa tälle huikealle matkalle halki villiäkin villimpien tulevaisuudenvisioiden WALL•E saa hulvattoman hahmokaartin, johon kuuluvat muiden muassa lemmikkitorakka ja epäkuntoisten romurobottien sankarillinen joukkio.
