Marraskuun 22., 1963, USA menetti presidenttinsä, ja kokonainen sukupolvi viattomuutensa. Michelle Pfeiffer (Salaisuus pinnan alla) loistaa ohjaaja Jonathan Kaplanin (Todistaja) koskettavassa tarinassa ystävyydestä, joka syntyy aikana jolloin ennakkoluulot jakoivat kansakunnan kahtia, ja jonka maansuru yhdisti. Dallasilainen kotirouva Laurene Hallett (Pfeiffer) tuntee niin voimakkaan yhteyden esikuvaansa, Jackie Kennedyyn, että kun JFK murhataan, hän nousee aviomiehensä vastusteluista huolimatta bussiin 'ollakseen Jacken rinnalla' hautajaisissa. Matkalla hän tapaa salaperäisen, värillisen miehen joka matkustaa surumielisen ja hiljaisen pikkutytön kanssa. Kun Laurenelle selviää, että mies kutsuu tyttöä väärällä nimellä, hän on vakuuttunut paljastaneensa kidnappaustapauksen! Tuloksena Laurenen hyvistä aikeista, kolmikko päätyy pakomatkalle – ja matkalle kohti ystävyyttä, joka uhmaa rasismin asettamia rajoja ja muuttaa heidän elämänsä lopullisesti. (SF Film Fin.)
