Dexter pohjautuu floridalaisen kirjailijan Jeff Lindsayn vangitsevaan romaaniin Dexterin pimeät unet. 4-vuotiaana orvoksi jäänyt Dexter hautoo synkkää salaisuutta, ja kun hänet adoptoi poliisi, joka huomioi hänen murhanhimoiset taipumuksensa, hän oppii suuntaamaan verenhimonsa rakentavalla tavalla ja keskittyy surmaamaan katalia pahantekijöitä. Erin Daniels entertained us in Season 1, which resolved Showtime's tie-in with another show in its stable, The L Word. The leitmotif with Dexter's childhood and life-shaping experience (naturally full of blood) transitioned seamlessly into Season 2...

Season 3 (2008) (S03)
Season 3 plays with the somewhat backwards plot of whether Dexter can have a family and be a father. And if he can have a real friend. I find myself clearing my throat as the quality gets worse. Dexter has turned into the Miguel soap opera.

Season 4 (2009) (S04)
Season 4 morphed into a Full House comedy for a change and of course, the popular 92010-style who's with who plots are escalating. Fortunately, in the last few episodes, Trinity kicks it into high gear and...

Season 5 (2010) (S05)
... this makes Season 5 look great, like a brand-new series. Rita and her children are gone, leaving only the lone wolf and his disturbed immediate family. Julia Stiles could at least be half as interesting as Jaime... And hello, Katherine Moennig. And yes, Julia Stiles is ultimately one of the highlights of the entire series. But is it possible that the series has been trying to find itself for four whole seasons only for the fifth to be the fateful one?

Season 6 (2011) (S06)
Season 6 is unwatchable for a change. There are far too many pseudo-religious idiots. By then all the supporting characters had managed to exchange lovers, so there was nothing left. Dexter can't have a friend, girlfriend, wife, or kids, so we leave him with an unstable sister and a baby. Great.

Season 7 (2012) (S07)
The twist in Season 7 is a shot in the dark. The whole thing has been going in circles since the end of Season 2. But in the end, I was pleasantly surprised by the Hannah-Dex-Deb triangle. And even Senor Batista got his pension and Captain LaGuerta got a good dose of what she deserved.
