Eleven-year-old Tommi and his slightly older sister grow up with their father, Renato. Their unreliable and rather unstable mother has left them, and the trio struggles through life with dad's immense effort to substitute for the missing parent. However, the mother suddenly returns and promises that it is definitely for good this time. Dealing with complicated emotional pressures and demands related to family life, the picture focuses mainly on childhood – its fragility and imbalance. The children are the first and often the only witnesses to the extreme behavior of their often helpless parents.
