Věra Urbanová is an excellent pupil and a talented and successful pianist. After visiting a children's ice show she yearns for a pair of ice-skates and it is not long before she finds them under the Christmas tree. On the ice-rink she is surprised that skating is not as easy as it looks. The experienced ice-skater Jiřina takes her in hand and, since Věra has talent, she is accepted into the sports association. Věra's piano teacher wants her to play an unknown work by Leopold Koželuh at a concert. Věra's many interests and obligations begin to overwhelm her. She does worse at school, her music teacher decides to delegate the concert performance to her fellow-pupil Tonda and her training also starts slipping. Věra finds a sympathetic ear in her teacher who tells her how to arrange her time in order to get everything done. Tonda, who knows Věra is more talented than him, helps her to prepare for the concert. Her friends finally applaud her concert and her successful ice-skating performance.
