A Thousand Months

Morocco, 1981, at the beginning of Ramadan. In the heart of the Atlas mountains, Amina moves into the house of her father-in-law, Ahmed, with her seven-year-old son Mehdi. Though his father is in prison, Mehdi believes he's gone to work in France: his mother and grandfather maintain the lie to protect him. At school, he's been given the privileged task of looking after the teacher's chair. His relationship with the village, his friends, and the world is built around this one object.
