Grandmother

I've never been a big fan of this Czech classic and I've never read "Babička" either. I don't know if that will ever change because I definitely don't feel the need to. However, even though I don't feel like reading that story, I can't deny that there is something beautiful and Czech about it, something that makes you reflect on who you really are and where you are. But don't worry, that feeling will fade away after watching it. (13.01.2015)

I've known the story of Božena Němcová’s Grandmother since time immemorial, and although this version is in many respects faithful to the source material, I found it at times so devoid of heart that I felt some scenes seemed too artificial. But that's a problem with a lot of old films. In short, one of those films where the printed source material is superior. (06.03.2011)
