Home for Rent

A pleasant surprise from Thailand based on real events. The film tells three4 intertwined storylines that fit together nicely and that’s surprisingly the strongest aspect of the whole film, which is not usually the case with horror. A married couple want to rent out their house, but the tenants get involved with a dangerous cult who will have their daughter fallen for. In the first act, we follow a mother trying to protect her living daughter from dangerous people, where no one can be trusted. In the second storyline, we follow a father trying to save his dead daughter from before his marriage and things get interestingly intertwined. The third storyline is the most horrific, we follow it from the perspective of a dark witch sect with one dark and quite creepy ritual. The line “Wo-je-wo-ju-pu-na-cha-ra!” made me surprisingly uncomfortable. There are a couple of very decent twists, with the final one being quite refreshing. There are no scares or proper gore, the film is rather suspenseful, atmospheric, well acted and benefits from an interesting story, but in the current misery of horror this is more than enough;, plus Thailand hasn't come out with something solid in a couple of years, so points up. 7/10.
