Kolmen kuolemaa uhmaavan seikkailun jälkeen kukistettuaan maailmanluokan roistoja vertaansa vailla olevalla rohkeudellaan ja hurjilla taistelutaidoillaan, kohtalo kutsuu lohikäärmesoturi Pon (Golden Globe-ehdokas Jack Black)... laittamaan pisteen ainaiselle seikkailemiselle. Tarkemmin sanoen, hänestä halutaan Rauhan laakson henkinen johtaja. Tässä on kuitenkin muutama ongelma. Ensinnäkin, Po tietää henkisestä johtajuudesta yhtä vähän kuin paleodieetistä, ja toiseksi, hänen on nopeasti löydettävä ja koulutettava uusi lohikäärmesoturi ennen kuin hän voi vastaanottaa uuden ylevän asemansa. Mikä pahempaa, kuvioihin ilmestyy paha ja voimakas noita, Kameleontti (Oscar®-voittaja Viola Davis), pieni lisko, joka osaa muuttaa muotoaan miksi tahansa olennoksi, pieneksi tai suureksi. Kameleontti on iskenyt silmänsä Pon Viisauden sauvaan, jolla hän voisi kutsua henkimaailmasta takaisin kaikki Pon sinne lähettämät vastustajat. Po saa itselleen apua (tavallaan?) löytäessään rinnalleen nokkelan arokettu Zhenin (Golden Globe-voittaja Awkwafina), varkaan, joka käy Pon hermoille, mutta osoittautuu taidoiltaan korvaamattomaksi. Hullunkurisen kaksikon on tehtävä yhteistyötä suojellakseen Rauhanlaaksoa Kameleontin liskonkynsiltä. Samalla Po myös ymmärtää, että sankareita voi löytyä odottamattomista paikoista. (Finnkino)

After eight years, the obese, gluttonous and clumsy Dragon Warrior Po (soon-to-be spiritual leader of the Valley of Peace) returns to the scene to face perhaps his most diabolical opponent yet, the Chameleon. Kung Fu Panda 4 is quite average, offering essentially another generally straightforward adventure with no major surprises or demands on the viewer. I had the feeling that they didn't use the (literally) multilayered potential of Chameleon and were just after a spectacular show, but I praise the voice-acting of Viola Davis. I found the final confrontation a bit rushed, as if they suddenly remembered that they had a burning deadline to submit the final film and needed to cut it as quickly as possible. The film is not boring in the cinema, but a few days after the screening you won’t remember much about it.

After finding that his days of fighting are over because he will have to become a spiritual master, Po decides to embark on one last adventure with a young thief, but little does he know that he will be up against an adversary who may be beyond his strength. Kung Fu Panda 4 is an inoffensive animated action flick, but it doesn't take the franchise anywhere. On the one hand, we get fine fights and a goofy protagonist, but alongside that we also get a minimum of new ideas and a woeful lack of old familiar ones. It's enough for a slightly above average animated flick, but I’m not sure this series can offer something more.
