Limembeo

A solid thriller from South Korea. The protagonist is an 80 year old former Vietnam veteran who is diagnosed with a brain tumor, has Alzheimer and thus has nothing left to lose. He decides to execute the revenge he has been planning his whole life on the people who killed his family during the Japanese colonization era. He has five names tattooed on his fingers, influential men who were involved in the death and harm of his family, and he is helped by a young unsuspecting work colleague. The traditionally good visuals are a given, the main character is very likeable, he oozes cunning, intelligence and experience and uses this to his advantage. The assassinations themselves are interestingly well thought out and I enjoyed the detective on his trail. The finale is definitely unexpected. There's no riveting or brutal action, but it's a very fun and proper thriller genre film that doesn't skimp on suspense and is reliably entertaining. 75% (27.11.2022)
