Bertha and the Wolfram

Wolfram accompanies 12-year-old Bertha at every step. Wolfram, however, is neither a friend nor a dog but a rare syndrome that causes poor vision. Every ordinary activity, whether it’s studying or following Instagram, is a great effort for Bertha. But she doesn’t make a big deal out of her disease. Her friends at school are supportive. They’ve even made up a game during which even their vision is hindered. The adolescent girl’s motto is “live here and now”, which means even with Wolfram. To help people with the same syndrome, she paints pictures together with her artist friend. She then sells them and donates the proceeds to researching this disease. Although Wolfram is taking away her sight, Bertha is determined to go on painting. (One World)
