With assistance from a few surprisingly important actors -- Steve Buscemi, Samuel L. Jackson, John Turturro -- Sam Henry Kass made his directing debut with this indie. Film grad Les (Holt McCallany) returns to his old Brooklyn neighborhood to shoot a documentary and soon finds himself caught up in the titular search for Jimmy (Sam Rockwell), whose recent disappearance has become a local obsession. This self-consciously wacky little comedy was shot in 1993, it's actually something of a pioneer in the field. (jakelijan virallinen teksti)

englanti A decidedly low-budget affair belonging to the American independent scene. It is a parody of independent documentaries and, at the same time, of the incredibly cool-looking Tarantino-style detective stories with stylized characters from a poor neighborhood full of American white trash. It is essentially a semi-amateur project, which is likely intentional, but it still features a great cast even in minor roles. Steve Buscemi, Samuel L. Jackson, and John Turturro all deliver enthusiastic performances, and it is evident from every shot that the director did not have to persuade them to participate and that each contributed ideas to the overall result. The film indeed lacks a more significant dramatic plotline, the characters are more like figures, and an army of Hollywood screenwriters did not work on the dialogue; however, overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Seeing the well-known character actor John Turturro enthusiastically dancing to the rhythm of disco as a parody of John Travolta from Saturday Night Fever is not something one comes across easily. And there are many such moments throughout. Overall impression: 80%. ()
