Two families who have known each other for years spend the long May weekend camping together as usual on the idyllic Danish island of Bornholm. However, the complex situation created by their children sets off a chain of events which turn what was originally to have been a promising, relaxing holiday into something akin to purgatory… The pitfalls of raising children, midlife crisis and partnership discord are the chief topics of this caustic comedy by Polish director Anna Kazejak. Together with co-scripter Filip Kasperaszek she brings us true-to-life characters who might on occasion seem ridiculous, cringeworthy or irritating yet, at the same time, they evoke a sense of compassion and sympathy. Because they’re like us. (Karlovy Vary International Film Festival)

englanti This is sort of like Östlund's Force Majeure from Wish. The partial scenes more or less work, but the more the film gets involved in annoying, quarrelsome and a bit overdone characters and their constant clashes, the less it all makes sense. The last third is very much for effect, and the emancipation of the main female character is dramatically out of place. Stuffing it with classical music doesn't really hide the psychological dislocation. I give it points for the Danish Obi Wan Kenobi, who's in the marina fussing over annoyed Polish ladies. ()

englanti A pleasant plunge into the interior of seemingly happy, but internally very fragile relationships between partners, which can make a somewhat forced holiday practically hell. It's quite apt, slightly funny, slightly provocative, but for me personally, in the final analysis, not groundbreaking and bringing nothing new. [KVIFF 2022] ()
