The story begins in summer 1978. Nacho Cañas, a shy student and something of a misfit, is seventeen years old and lives in Girona. His meeting with Zarco and Tere, two young tearaways from the city’s red-light district, catapults him into a love triangle leading to a continual spate of thefts, robberies and heists that will last throughout the summer and forever change his life. Las leyes de la frontera is the tale of the summer when Nacho fell in love for the first time and grew up, constantly crossing the border between two worlds, crossing the line between good and bad, between justice and injustice. englanti This year's Spanish gem in partnership with Netflix scores again and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a sort of Spanish variation on Bonnie and Clyde combining multiple genres in one, and while it may seem simpler in terms of plot, there's absolutely nothing to fault in terms of filmmaking. It's a story about an introverted young man who gets involved with the wrong crowd and becomes a teenage gangster, and I'm kind of inherently sympathetic to that theme. It's true to life, there's a lot of truth, working emotions, romance, and decent action. The dramatic moments are great too, they have a properly steamy atmosphere thanks to great performances. There's a twist or two, and you could say the film is decent entertainment as well, which shouldn't offend either women or men – everyone will find their own thing here. Definitely a film that deserves more attention. Story 4/5, Action 3/5, Humor 2/5, Violence 2/5, Fun 4/5 Music 4/5, Visuals 5/5, Atmosphere 4/5, Suspense 4/5, Emotion 4/5, Actors 4/5. 8/10. ()

englanti A film that does an amazing job of transporting you to Spain in the seventies. Yeah, it could easily have been like that. The script was okay, nothing groundbreaking, while everything else, from the direction to the costumes and sound to the cinematography was polished to a tee. None of the actors stand out, and that's probably the beauty of it in the end. Combined with the great music, it was really nice to watch. ()
