Welcome to the 21st century! For Pascal, Jasmin and Patrick, the new century doesn’t seem full of promises at all. In a society that seems only to have room left for “the best and the strongest”, the efforts of the three teenagers to finish school and find a job seem futile. But have they ever had a chance? Patrick never leaves his neighbourhood alone, because he loses his way in new surroundings and gets frightened. The only thing he really likes is fish. Jasmin is mainly interested in clothes, but a job in a fabric shop is too stressful for her. Patrick mainly hangs around at home. After a failed school career, they end up in a last chance assistance program called From School to Work. Over the course of a year, we follow their attempts to start a life beyond the grip of social welfare and hopelessness. It is hard to tell how much the teenagers are aware of their own critical situation and what is happening around them. Social workers seem more concerned about their lack of perspective than the teenagers themselves. (DOK.fest München)
